Can you tell me which joist size to use?▼
We can tell you what the calculator's method says for the inputs you enter — and show every formula behind it. But the joist your floor actually needs depends on the grade stamp on the delivered lumber, the loads your room sees, and the code edition your jurisdiction has adopted. Product selection and code compliance belong to your supplier, your framer, and your local building department.
